celery for the win - drinking celery juice for amazing health

Have you heard of celery juice yet?

A friend turned me on to it early in the summer when I was telling her about my tummy troubles. As I outlined in a previous blog post, I have been suffering from several symptoms of dis-ease and wanted to get things to a happy new normal.

Short story, celery juice has helped immensely with my symptoms and has cleared the way for me to eat foods again that have been giving me trouble, such as dairy, FODMAPs and nightshades. That's a win in my book!

I have read three of the Anthony William's, Medical Medium (MM) books, Celery Juice, Thyroid Healing and Liver Rescue. Although I'm not really certain of his medical background (I'm quite a cynic), his suggestions seem REAL-istic and are easy to do.

First things first, the MM prescribes with any of his protocols, that you should be avoiding inflammatory foods and foods that are hard on your body, like:

  • processed sugar

  • table salt and sodium

  • wheat and gluten

  • vegetable, canola, safflower oils

  • dairy (from cows)

  • pork

  • eggs

  • soy

  • corn

  • alcohol

  • GMOs

And that you should be drinking lots of water - feel free to add some lemon juice, Lemon Vitality Essential Oil, or aloe juice to that to support your liver.

Celery Juice Cleanse

For 30 days commit to having:

  • 32 ounce glass of lemon water upon waking - hydrate & jump start the detox process.

  • Wait 15-30 minutes.

  • Make a 16 ounce celery juice* (directions at the bottom of this post).

  • Wait 15-30 minutes.

  • Eat fat free/low fat (lots of fruit) until lunch - so your liver can process.

Sounds reasonable and its not that tough. I tend to skip the lemon water and jump right into the celery juice. If I woke up a bit earlier :-), this might not be such a timing issue for me. MM lists dozens of ailments in the book that can be helped by plain old celery juice. Apparently it has sodium cluster salts, minerals, electrolytes, plant hormones, digestive enzymes, antioxidants and prebiotics - all things to help your digestion!

Honestly, I have had a fresh celery juice every morning for the past 3 months and I feel fantastic. It is helping my constipation issues, my arthritic joint issues and my sugar crutch issues.

I feel like a heel that I am so behind the times and just joined the bandwagon this summer. Better late than never!

Liver Rescue

There are a number of foods and chemicals that put an extra burden on the liver and for our bodies to function at their highest levels, we need to avoid them. In addition to the list above, it is important to avoid: petro-chemicals, dryer sheets, plug ins, personal care products with fragrance and parabens, soda and vehicle exhaust. We have written several times (here, here, and here) about the damage that these seemingly harmless, nice smelling products can do. It's time to get them out of your life, so your body can do it's job effectively.

Thyroid Healing

MM describes that most (all?) thyroid issues can be traced back to the Epstein Barr virus. It's easy to catch and does damage to your thyroid for years without noticeable symptoms. Eating foods that starve the virus (fresh fruits and veggies) and avoiding all those foods listed above can help you keep this vitally important glad thriving.

* How to make celery juice

Start with a large, heavy bunch of organic celery and a high powered juicer (which I don't have)or blender. Trim off the very top and very bottom of the celery, rinse it well, and chop into 1" pieces. Pop into your blender (I add a dash of water) and puree. You will pour the mash into a nut bag and squeeze well to extract all the juice. Depending on the size of your initial bunch, you will have a large glass to drink. Enjoy!
