As some of you know, I’ve recently changed my 9-5 job (what a way to make a living!) (more on why in a future post). During my on-boarding, one of my co-workers asked me to think about my theme song. Excuse me? My what?
She went on to explain that, not only was it a fun ice-breaker at company events, but in order to share a little insight to how each employee views themselves, everyone was asked to provide a theme song to share with the group. Each song clip gets played, then everyone tries to guess whose song it is.
I had no idea how hard this would be for me. I was racking my brain with all the songs that I love and why. I immediately eliminated all the ballads… didn’t want to be the girl that brought down the room. So, I started scouring the remaining songs in all my playlists. I have A LOT of play lists.
I have a song… most of my peeps know it’s my song. It was the song that I blasted as loud as I could before I went in for surgery to remove my cancerous thyroid. A fun song that told me everything was going to be OK. Had a bad week? Girlfriend cheated on you? It’s OK, there’s a party tonight. Not a dollar in your pocket? No worries, we’re going to have some fun later. And if you can’t feel the happy right now, it’s OK to fake it until you get there. We’ll keep the beat up for you until you’re ready.
But I wasn’t sure I wanted to share this song with all these strangers just yet.
Every time I thought I had settled on a different song… something would nag at me… “really? That one? Are you sure?”
I asked the boy and he came up with a bunch of HIS songs he thought would be funny. Thanks, babe, but your music is so... UGH. Love you, though!
When I asked Heather… she recommended “Let it go” by Zak Brown Band and “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. Both great songs and had the same sentiment. (does she know me or what?!)
Ultimately… they just didn’t feel right. So… I cut my 30 seconds of Hot Chelle Rae’s “Tonight Tonight” and sent it off.
“La la la, whatever, la la la, It doesn't matter, la la la, oh well, la la la
We're going at it tonight tonight There's a party on the rooftop top of the world Tonight tonight and we're dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign I don't know if I'll make it but watch how good I'll fake it It's all right, all right, tonight, tonight”
It IS my party... and it IS all right. And while sometimes things don’t seem like they’re going to be all right… Keep the beat pumping and make the choice to FEEL like they will. I promise you’ll get there faster that way.
